Story
Monster party stars you, a goofy kid with a bat, against an army of unlikely, lovable monsters. You receive this quest to destroy the evil from a huge, fearful demon named.... Bert. Yes, Ernie's best buddy has apparently been transformed into a perpetually optimistic demonic outer-space monster. At least it's good to see he's getting work/

Gameplay
Monster Party is a side-scroller, with your traditional whacking and jumping activities. You cannot jump in monsters to injure them - the slightest touch will decrease your life bar. You can lay prone to avoid projectiles, swing your bat, jump, and, if you find the right item, transform into a little demom yourself. In demon mode, you can float sort of half-assedly and fire ranged weapons.

Challenge
The controls never seem to *quite* do what you want them to, but they'll see you through. It has that early NES game feel of stilted awkardness.
